The Playden Oasts Hotel and Freehouse, just north of Rye on the A268, is well worth the trip. In the warm and cozy converted oast, complete with hanging dried hops in the three circular brick rooms, we enjoyed excellent hospitality from the entire staff. Michelle, the black lab, was also a friendly companion.

Our dinners included chicken in cream with stilton and fried plaice coated in bread crumbs.

We had a wonderful experience in the cute inn approximately one mile from the city center of historic Rye. Stayed in a large roundel room above the pub. Was concerned that pub noise would be a problem but it was not. Staff wonderful and restaurant was a very pleasant surprise.
